Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the main road in Vatnajökull National Park. Take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading west. After approximately 40 kilometers, look for the turnoff onto Route 221 towards Sólheimasandur. Follow this road for about 10 kilometers until you reach the dedicated parking area for Sólheimajökull. Note that there might be a parking fee, typically around 1,000 ISK. From the parking area, it's a short and easy 10-minute walk to the glacier.

For those using public transportation, catch a bus from Reykjavík to Vík, which is a common route. From Vík, you will need to take a taxi or arrange for a shuttle service to reach Sólheimajökull, as public transport does not directly serve the glacier area. Expect taxi fares to be around 10,000 ISK from Vík to the glacier parking area. Once at the parking, it's a quick 10-minute walk to the glacier.
