Getting There

  • Car

    From Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre, drive along Cradle Mountain Road towards Cradle Mountain Lodge. The Pencil Pine Falls track starts near the Cradle Mountain Lodge, just after the Cradle Mountain Interpretation Centre. Parking is available at the Interpretation Centre. Be aware that private vehicle access into the park is only permitted outside of shuttle bus operating hours, with limited parking available. During shuttle operating hours, you can park at the visitor center and take the shuttle.

  • Shuttle Bus

    During shuttle bus operating hours, park at the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre. Purchase a parks pass if you don't already have one. A shuttle bus ticket is required for visitors 18 years and over, in addition to the parks pass. Take the shuttle bus to the Interpretation Centre and Ranger Station stop. The Rainforest Walk, which leads to the Pencil Pine Falls viewing platform, starts behind the Ranger Station. As of 2025, a shuttle bus ticket costs $15 for adults.

  • Walking

    If you are staying at Cradle Mountain Lodge, the Discovery Centre and the start of the Pencil Pine Falls trail are a short walk from the entrance of the lodge. Follow the signs for the Rainforest Walk. The trail is a fully constructed boardwalk. The walk to the Pencil Pine Falls lookout is approximately 250 meters and should take about 12 minutes.
