Cachoeira Ferro Doido: Bahia's Breathtaking Waterfall

Cachoeira Ferro Doido is one of the most impressive landscapes in Chapada Diamantina and Bahia, situated in a canyon over 100 meters high in Morro do Chapéu. During the rainy season, visitors can witness four immense waterfalls, a truly breathtaking sight. The waterfall is part of the Natural Monument of Cachoeira do Ferro Doido, a state-protected area. The area is home to diverse flora, including orchids, and fauna such as the Chilean eagle and the golden hummingbird. The falls are easily accessible, located 18 kilometers from the city center via the BA-052 highway. A short, 10-minute walk from the road leads to the top of the falls, making it accessible for all ages. Visitors can enjoy the view from the top of the canyon or take a moderate-level trail down to the base of the waterfall with a local guide. The region is also part of the Integrated Center for Geological Studies of the Geological Service of Brazil, attracting researchers interested in the area's geology. The Natural Monument of Cachoeira do Ferro Doido spans approximately 362 hectares, showcasing diverse environments with varied plant and animal species.
