Getting There

    The Napoleon Fortress is accessible via a walking trail from Hvar Town. Start at the main square (Trg Sv. Stjepana) and head east towards the waterfront promenade (Riva). Walk along the Riva until you reach the marina. Continue past the marina, following signs for 'Napoleon Fortress' or 'Fortica'. The trail begins at the base of the hill and is marked with signs. The hike is steep and takes approximately 30 minutes. Wear comfortable shoes.

    To reach the trailhead by public transport, take a local bus from Hvar Town to Vrboska. The bus ride takes about 20 minutes and costs approximately 33 HRK. From Vrboska, walk back towards Hvar Town to find the trail leading to Napoleon Fortress. Look for signs directing you to Fortica, as the trailhead is located along that route. The hike from the trailhead to Napoleon will take about 30 minutes. Check the bus schedule in advance for return trips to Hvar Town.

    You can take a taxi from Hvar Town to the trailhead of the Napoleon Fortress. From the town center, take the road leading north. Follow the signs for the Hvar Fortress (Fortica) and continue past the parking area. There will be a sign indicating the trail to Napoleon. The drive takes about 10 minutes. From the parking area, it's a short hike (approximately 30 minutes) to reach Napoleon. Taxi fares in Hvar start at 5.00 HRK per km. A minimum fare from a taxi rank for journeys up to 6 kilometers is 150,00 HRK.
