If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town in The Highlands, such as Hella. From Hella, take Route 26 heading north until you reach the junction with Route 30. Turn left onto Route 30. Continue on Route 30 for approximately 20 km, then turn right onto Route 32. After about 10 km, turn left onto Route 26 again. Drive for about 30 km until you reach the Landmannaleið road (Fjallabak Nature Reserve). Note that the Landmannaleið road is a F-road, which requires a 4x4 vehicle due to rough terrain. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for these conditions. The total driving time from Hella should be around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on road conditions.

For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Reykjavik to Hella. Companies like Reykjavik Excursions or Sterna offer services to Hella. Once you arrive in Hella, you will need to arrange a 4x4 taxi or tour service that operates to Fjallabak Nature Reserve, as public buses do not service this area directly. It is advisable to book this in advance. The taxi ride from Hella to Fjallabak Nature Reserve will take about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on the route and weather conditions. Be prepared for additional costs, as the taxi fare can range from ISK 20,000 to ISK 30,000 one way, depending on your negotiation skills and the specific service.
