Discover more about Tokushima Prefectural Uzu-no-Michi Walkway

The Uzu-no-Michi Walkway provides a unique and exhilarating vantage point to witness the natural wonder of the Naruto whirlpools. Located beneath the massive Onaruto Bridge, which connects Honshu and Shikoku, this 450-meter-long walkway extends out over the Naruto Strait, positioning visitors 45 meters (148 feet) above the swirling waters. The Naruto whirlpools are a result of the unique geography of the Naruto Strait, where large volumes of water move between the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The narrow strait and the tidal differences create strong currents, forming the whirlpools that can reach up to 20 meters in diameter during spring tides. These impressive whirlpools are among the largest in the world and are a captivating sight to behold. The walkway itself is an engineering marvel, allowing visitors to safely experience the power and beauty of the whirlpools. The observation gallery features glass-floored sections, providing a thrilling and sometimes dizzying view directly down into the swirling currents below. The walkway also offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the Seto Inland Sea, and the surrounding Naruto Park. Naruto Park, located at the Shikoku end of the Onaruto Bridge, offers additional viewpoints and attractions related to the whirlpools. Visitors can explore walking trails, observation decks like the Senjojiki Observatory, and the Onaruto Bridge Museum Eddy to learn more about the bridge's construction and the science behind the whirlpools. The park also has Eska Hill, accessible via a paid escalator, providing another vantage point. The Naruto whirlpools have also inspired Japanese culture, including art, folklore, and even the name of the main character in the popular anime series "Naruto".
