Getting There

  • Driving

    From Yakushima Airport, the East China Sea Observatory is approximately a 33-minute drive (23.4 km). Follow the main roads towards the western side of the island. The observatory is located between Isso Village and Yoshida Village. As you emerge from a tunnel, the viewpoint will appear. Car rentals are available at the airport.

  • Public Transport

    From Miyanoura, take the local bus towards the western side of the island. Alight at Shirakawa bus stop No.9, which is 400 meters (5 minutes walking distance) from the observatory. Bus services are limited, so check the timetable in advance. A one-day bus pass costs ¥2,000.
