On the drive up from the port, the guide on the bus gives you plenty of information on both the landscape and the locals. At the rafts, they provide wellingtons and ponchos, and then it is all about climbing aboard for a nice gentle float down the river. It was a great experience and well worth doing.

This trip was amazing! Floating down the river and watching wildlife. Saw at least 50 Eagles in their natural habitat. They provided rubber boots but we never got wet. Definitely recommend!!! Our bus guide was Max - awesome stories and facts on the ride up. Boat guide was Wiley - super skilled and kept us all dry!! Don’t be intimidated - this was fun and anyone can do it!!!

This was our favorite excursion of all the Alaska cruise! We were alone in the raft with Jake our guide who did a fabulous job of guiding us down the river. We must have seen over 2 dozen eagles. The river was peaceful and beautiful. Great excursion!!!

Well-organized company in getting us transported from Haines to put-in point. Felt very safe with all the guides, they are well experienced in floating the river (which can change daily). Nice little snack after we finished.

On our recent cruise to Alaska, we took the Haines Eagle Preserve Float & Wildlife excursion out of Skagway. This took us on the glacier fed Tsirku and Chilkat rivers. We enjoyed the trip very much. We appreciated the knowledgeable and skilled guides, the beautiful scenery, and the ferry over to Haines from Skagway. We went by bus to from the ferry dock to the river entry point, and back from the river to the ferry afterward. We saw a number of eagles. We were served a nice casual picnic lunch after the float part of the trip. The guides provided us boots and life jackets for the float. There were 4 rafts with 8 people to a raft, and a guide/driver for each of the rafts, plus an extra guide in a raft to help out. The guides were quite skilled in managing the boats and took the time to give us safety information and other info to help us enjoy our ride. It was interesting and informative. It was quite safe for this non-adventurous retired gramma. We were glad to have chosen this trip.

Amazing trip! Guides were fun and professional. Got to see Alaska in a real way. I recommend anyone that wants an unique adventure to try this. My favorite excursion!

Had a wonderful float trip!! Lovely pace the river is slow- no white water- boots are provided to get in and out of the raft. Do dress warm as the river can be breezy. Bring gloves and a hat just in case. Saw many eagles and several huge nests- then a moose mama with TWINS! What a treat that was. The babies were so small- probably just a week old or less. She was protective and ushered the babies away from the raft but she did not charge us. As we passed, the moose kept a watchful eye as did we!

Saw so many eagles! The day was chilly and rainy, but still enjoyable. They provided ponchos and boots, but I should have taken gloves and more layers. It was still an awesome experience. Our guides, Cordelia and Liv were also great and entertaining! It took a while to get there due to the transfer from Skagway to Haines, but our cruise ship handled the arrangements and it was still seamless.

I took this tour from a cruise ship out of Skagway, AK. This made for a long day, so I would suggest you take the excursion out of Haines, AK for a more enjoyable day. I went in mid August and a long sleeved shirt and rain jacket was fine as it didn't rain. The ride was enjoyable through the Preserve and we did see a few Eagles. The guides were very knowledgeable and eager to answer all our questions.

Smooth sailing with Scott Ramsey, Ian, Cordelia, and the whole crew! Eagles are unpredictable—a matter of spotting them perched high or rapidly flying overhead. Our raft captain knew where to take us, how to deftly guide the raft through occasional barriers and obstacles, and then served a bagged deli-style lunch and hot chocolate that hit the spot. My only regret is forgetting to bring binoculars, but I still saw around a dozen eagles and a few nests. Scott was especially enlightening about what it’s like to live in the area and kept us all in happy spirits. Great job!
