The entire trip was fabulous! Our guide Ivy was knowledgeable, very friendly and helpful. Our group consisted of five women friends with experience in paddling and camping for three days. Outdoor Adventures customized the trip to meet our expectations and preferences. We kayaked everyday and also hiked to stretch out and enjoy the fabulous views of the beautiful San Juan islands. In the evening we watched the sunsets, played cards and exchanged stories. We learned a lot about the area, wildlife and history of the islands. And Ivy’s cooking was fabulous and customized to meet our preferences. The camping equipment was in good shape and tents were easy to assemble and comfortable. This trip is highly recommended.

This was a fantastic, long weekend of sea kayaking in the beautiful San Juans. Outdoor Odysseys provides all the kayaking related equipment and takes care of all meals. You do not need sea kayaking experience to go on this trip (but it does help to have a little fitness!). I was born and raised in the Pacific NW, but I've never seen it like this. Spending hours each day on the water, observing the wildlife, currents and tides is a treat and a great learning experience. Outdoor Odysseys provides all the kayaking equipment, instruction, and gourmet meals. If you're lucky, you'll get Carl as your guide! Take one of their trips!

This trip was....okay. This was my fourth guided trip and my first time using Outdoor Odysseys. Compared to other outfitters, Outdoor Odysseys felt like a step down. I booked it because there were such great reviews of the food, wine, and guides. We had one guide, Leah, who was very knowledgable, kind, and patient, and our other guide (who has been praised in other reviews, I see!) who seemed kind of crabby and over the whole thing. Main bummer -- there was not nearly enough food. We had a group of ten kayakers and we all went away hungry every meal but one. The food served did not resemble the sample menus -- more like PBJ, canned tuna, stuff like that. Saturday morning we were served undercooked cinnamon rolls with some condensed milk on the top -- not quite fuel for a full day of sea kayaking! When pressed, our guide noted that they had eggs but our day would be delayed if we wanted them. Um? Other thing -- not enough opportunities to fill water bottles. I was surprised, despite room in the kayaks, that the guides did not bring containers of water on our day trips. The travelers, myself and my partner included, had only brought one container because that's what was recommended! Our guide definitely tried to convince us to spend more time off the water than on. He was not psyched about taking a group on the biolumenescence tour, and displayed clear annoyance when we opted for the Saturday option that would have us on the water for about six hours vs two hours on the water and most of the day at the campsite. We had proven ourselves able kayakers and the weather was good, so it was odd. Last thing, and I write it with many grains of salt -- we didn't see any whales, which no guide can control. However, it didn't seem like our guide was paying attention to their location. When we said we wanted to do the route that gave us the best odds for a whale sighting, our guide said that we were really, really, really unlikely to see any and that they have never seen any on an overnight trip. That sucked to hear, especially since this trip advertises itself in quite the opposite way. TL; DR - way too expensive for what they actually deliver.

My sister and I booked a custom three day kayaking trip to Stuart Island for our two families, four adults and three teenage boys. We had an AMAZING trip! Our outstanding guide, Andy, did great job navigating the tides while sharing interesting facts/tips about the Islands, wildlife and kayaking techniques. On our first day we left from Smallpox Bay and paddled through Mosquito Pass past Henry Island then across a big stretch of water by Spieden Island. This was our most challenging paddle of the trip, fighting against the current, but feeling so victorious when we reached the mouth of Reid Harbor at Stuart Island. There's a very nice camp sight at the head of Reid Harbor with running water and composting toilets. We camped here for two nights which gave us time to explore Stuart Island. On our second day we hiked to the middle of the Island where there is a one-room schoolhouse, tiny library and mini-museum. There's even a basketball hoop with a ball available so our boys got some shots up. There's an honor system souvenir shop where we bought t-shirts for all. You Venmo or send a check in later for payment. After lunch we did an afternoon paddle exploring the shoreline around Stuart Island. We returned early evening and did a nice hike to the Turn Point lighthouse while Andy prepared our dinner. We had a delicious meal paired with some nice local San Juan Island wines and chocolate fondue and fruit for dessert. We decided to get an early start on our third day because the tides were in our favor. We stopped on a pretty beach on Henry Island for lunch then continued our paddle back to Small Pox Bay. It was a fantastic family adventure, made extra special by our awesome guide, Andy, who was fun and engaging. He fit right in, like one of the family. I would highly recommend Outdoor Odysseys for your San Juan Kayaking adventure. It's a beautiful way to see the Islands and they will take great care of you!

what an amazing trip! my daughter, her friend and i did the women's only kayak trip with Ivy as our guide. Ivy and Jason (manager at OOSK) called prior to our departure to understand my daughter's dietary needs, which gave her confidence she would have OOSK looking out for her needs. the food was five star worthy - we ate like queens - Ivy is a superb chef who cooked with fresh vegetables and herbs, and made inspiring desserts in a dutch oven on the camp fire. she double checked with my daughter regarding her dietary restrictions and nailed each meal with flavorful delicacies. we all felt safe with Ivy as our guide - she talked us through upcoming kayak challenges - like paddle steadily next five minutes to get across ferry routes. there were no surprises because we were prepared for the wind, waves, tides and currents. Ivy adapted the three days based on our needs - we spent the second day hiking around Jones Island which gave us time to explore and see the island and enjoy the beauty of the San Juan Islands. Ivy had a great knowledge of the islands, the landscape and history which was a prefect way to learn about our location. i would highly recommend this company and Ivy. thank you guys for a special time.

Our guide, Eli, developed his culinary skills in some of New Orleans' finest restaurants, but they really shine in the backcountry of the San Juan Islands. From hot and gooey Dutch oven brownies (with fresh shaken whipped cream!) to stir-fry with organic veggies and perfect seasonings (and two kinds of hot sauce!) and locally made wine, he made us feel like we weren't missing anything off the grid on remote Stuart Island. He is a confident leader who has wilderness first aid and rescue training; an enthusiastic cheerleader, encouraging strong paddling and praising hard work after a tough channel crossing; and an all-star cook - exactly the skills and personality you want for this paddling trip. The scenery and wild/marine life made this trip breathtaking, but Eli brought the magic and made sure everyone - kids, tweens, and grown-ups, fully enjoyed themselves. We will cherish the special experience and wonderful memories. Thank you, Eli and Outdoor Odyssey!

Had a really great three-day trip around the beautiful San Juan islands, camping on Stuart Island. Sam and Evelyn were amazing guides, we were with a great group of people and the food was phenomenal. We were lucky enough to have great weather too. We were a bit nervous before going about how our teenager would cope with the kayaking, but she had a great time, and on the tougher open-water crossings we had great support from Sam and Evelyn. Highly recommended!

This was my second trip with Outdoor Odessey. All the guides I've had were excellent -- fun, helpful, provided good food. I'd happily go again.

I did the 3 day tour with Hayden and had a fabulous time. We were just a group of 4 with her (me, another solo traveller and a couple) and everything was planned perfectly. The food was amazing and plentiful and you will not lose weight on this trip, despite all of the paddling. Local wine was included and the meals included lots of fresh veggies/fruits (I don't know where she pulled all of the items from +!). We paddled about 4-6 hours per day and enjoyed plenty of down-time in camp. I would definitely do this trip again and highly recommend booking with Outdoor Odysseys.

We did the 3 day kayaking trip out to Stuart Island with Outdoor Odysseys. It was an amazing experience! Neither of us had kayaked in the ocean before but our guides, Sam and Evelyn, made us feel confident, even with the full moon causing some crazy current/tide challenges! The food was over the top - healthy, plentiful and made from lots of locally sourced ingredients. Sam and Evelyn are fantastic cooks and very entertaining. Our weather was perfect and we had a great group of fellow paddlers. Thanks so much for the one of kind adventure!
