Jackson Square

Meet in the Jackson Square neighborhood – a 10-minute walk from Downtown San Francisco – in the late afternoon to start your walking tour. Come hungry, as you’ll be getting lots of food on this 3-hour tour, which follows a flat, easy route. Following your expert local guide, delve behind the scenes of Little Italy’s food and restaurant scene, hearing fascinating historical facts and stories along the way, like how this neighborhood was once part of the Barbary Coast – San Francisco’s red-light district in the 1800s during the California Gold Rush. You'll also visit hidden Prohibition-era tunnels where booze was smuggled into the city.

North Beach

Though you’ll learn a lot of interesting history, this tour is about the food. Enjoy a cheese tasting at a trendy wine bar. Then indulge in an Italian wood-fired pizza made in the oldest pizza oven on the West Coast; built in 1935, this treasured tool was copied by Wolfgang Puck at Spago and Alice Waters at Chez Panisse. Pop into a gourmet boutique shop for a sweet-and-savory treat such as artisan agave caramel drizzled over popcorn- yum! Top your culinary journey off with a visit to a historic Italian bookshop-turned-café, where you'll fill your own delicate cannoli with an Italian cannoli maker.

Little Italy

You’ll find that all the tastings add up to a satisfying meal. Your tour ends in the evening a few blocks from your original departure point, where you’re free to continue exploring this fabulous San Francisco neighborhood bustling with vibrant nightlife. Evan was our guide. He was professional and added just enough history to make more than a food tour. Only thing my husband and I would suggest (everytjing served was very good by the way) is to add a second option instead of just serving one item. We would never have ordered the items served and enjoyed each spot!

We highly recommend the progressive dinner walking tour of North Beach with Avital. Nikki kept a reasonable pace as she led a small group of us from Washington Square through the Italian community, where we sampled Cioppino with crab and shellfish, a delicious pork Bao bun, hot fresh pizza from the oldest pizza oven on the West Coast, and finally two flavors of creamy, luscious gelato! Her inside stories of the families and history behind each restaurant made the tour memorable. All the food was fresh, hot, and scrumptious! This was much more fun than randomly choosing a restaurant and sitting the whole time! We were so full! The tour starts at 3:00 pm and ends about 6:00, and alcohol can be added to the package (optional). No need for dinner after this! Take a Lyft or Uber to a show, or head to a comedy club or opera after the tour! Dress casually and warmly, depending on weather.

Very fun tour, friendly and knowledgeable guides, varied and delicious food selection, and good information on the history of the neighborhood. A great way to spend the afternoon for locals or visitors.

I loved this experience! Wow! The food, stories, and fellow travelers were just wonderful. The ciopinno soup was by far my favorite. The four other guests were just lovely and the walk was more like a stroll, nice and easy. Danielle was our docent and she just rocked. She took care of us which I really enjoyed. I liked not having any responsibility navigating a busy city. Our first progressive dinner and totally not our last! A great value and worth every penny.

We loved this tour! Our guide Hailey was wonderful, full of knowledge and it was a very laid back, tasty experience.

The firs two restaurants were fantastic! The third stop was unprepared for us and adversely affected that experience and the 4th stop. Also we had purchased the alcohol pairing which was minimal. At the third stop we received an estimated 1 oz of wine. The previous restaurant we had received a glass of wine. It seems like 3 drinks might be a reasonable expectation for a 3 hour tour.

The tour was a Christmas gift from very good friend, it was much appreciated but with some reservation due to my my strong understanding of the North Beach Area, being in the area for the past 30 years and feeling i knew everything there was to know about the Italian neighborhood. Much to my surprise the guide Hanna not only imparted some great facts about famed the North Beach area but she the four eateries that she took us to were all newbies to us. The Chippino was outstanding unique and well flavored, the stories she shared were great and accurate. The highlight was as we sat in a beautiful compact, out of the way old wood burning pizza restaurant , she asked if we would like to hear one of her songs, as she had told us that she was a musician, Whoa on top of being a wonderful host her voice was outstanding. Great outstanding 3 1/2 hour tour.

My friend wanted to do something different for her birthday, and we decided to be tourists in our own city with this walking food tour. We had a terrific time on this tour, learned some new facts about San Francisco, and the food/ drinks were delicious. The restaurants we went were not obvious spots, and the portions were healthy. I especially loved our tour guide, Haley. Her demeanor was so lovely and she was great at keeping us moving and entertained. I want to go back on another tour in a different part of the city.

Ben was very informative. It was a great experience. We not only took us to great restaurants but had great information to share about the area.
