Your Itinerary

Lake Windermere

It's easy to see why the Lake Districts longest lake has been chosen as the backdrop for many TV & Hollywood blockbusters. It's impressive nature, carved out at the end of the ice age, is both crowd pleasing in its magnificence, and spectacular for its picturesque beauty. The villages of Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere itself have also been a focus. Deep Water, Safe House, Snow White & The Huntsman and Peter Rabbit are just a few that have taken advantage of this particular stretch of water. In the distance the fell of Cat Bells can also be spotted. It was used in the aeronautical scenes in Star Wars, The Force Awakens in 2015.

Coniston

As with many of the Lake Districts lakes, Coniston was chosen by TV & Film crews for its tranquil nature and dazzling beauty. At 5 miles long, the 3rd longest lake in the Lake District, it has 3 islands all owned by the National Trust. Originally used to carry slate and ore from the mines around Coniston, to the Furness peninsular. Safe House, Miss Potter and Swallows & Amazons have all been filmed here.

Borrowdale

The site used as Beatrix Potter’s home during the filming of Miss Potter was Yew Tree Farm in Borrowdale. Chosen for its rural nature to depict a traditional way of life in the Lake District. Hill Top Farm, Sawrey was her actual home but is extremely busy during the Summer season as its now open to the public, Yew Tree Farm is both quaint and scenically pleasing so was the films preferred location.

Blea Tarn

Take this beautiful windy route through the Langdale Valley to Blea Tarn, one of our quietest rural areas, popular for walkers, off the beaten track, and a hidden gem of the Lake District. The blockbuster Snow White & The Huntsman chose this area for its vast expanse of dramatic and desolate surroundings. In contrast the film crew on Brief Encounter found Middle Fell Bridge perfect for the intimate and romantic nature of their venture.

Ambleside

Ambleside was a favourite location for the first Peter Rabbit film in 2019 to capture the hustle and bustle of a traditional Lakeland town. With its many hidden lanes and windy streets, along with its heritage and lush surrounding landscape, Ambleside made for the perfect choice.

Staveley

In 2018 the TV production of Deep Water began using various locations in the area. The most popular was that of Staveley Village and the Kentmere Valley, although Bowness-on-Windermere and Lakeside were also used. Chosen for its typical village and rural setting the premise of 3 families of different backgrounds and financial situation navigated their way through life. 2 cottages in the village were used as homes, the Kentmere Valley showed one characters business and the local primary school was also utilised as a meeting place of the parents each day.
