Your Itinerary

Luss

40 minutes after leaving Glasgow our first stop is this very pretty village on the western shore of Loch Lomond. Walk past the sandstone and slate cottages to the pier with it's wonderful views across to Ben Lomond and expansive loch views. Luss Graveyard has graves dating back to 600AD/ 700AD, there is also a Viking grave from 1250AD, complete with a Viking Hogback Stone.

Loch Tulla Viewpoint

A 58 minute drive north from Luss has you traveling deeper into the Highlands, passing through increasingly dramatic landscape before arriving in Tyndrum, a noted stop with toilets and a shop before the wilderness of Rannoch Moor. We stop on the edge of Rannoch Moor with a truly epic panorama and a place to begin appreciating the scale of the empty landscape.

Rannoch Moor

One of the last wilderness areas in Europe, a vast area of bogs, small lochs (called Lochans), streams and rock outcrops. There are several stopping places where you can soak in the spectacle of this area.

Kingshouse Hotel

After a 10 minute drive across Rannoch Moor, we can stop at this iconic landmark sitting at the top of Glencoe Valley, enjoy a coffee and snack inside with its floor to ceiling windows providing yet more glorious views. Otherwise we can carry on down to sea level and stop in Glencoe Village before starting our coastal drive to Oban.

Oban

A stunning 66 minute drive from The Kingshouse Hotel to the very pretty and bustling port of Oban. On the way we can enjoy the magnificent and unspoiled coastline of Loch Linnhe, spot Stalker Castle and the Falls of Lora. In Oban, you can enjoy seafood cooked in the open air, do some shopping for souvenirs, have a coffee and enjoy this port gateway to Scottish Islands, such as Barra, Mull and The Outer Hebrides

Kilchurn Castle

A 37 minute drive inland towards Inverary and another sight to behold. Kilchurn Castle, built around 1450, this long abandoned castle is still very impressive, and its setting at the top of Loch Awe with a backdrop of Highland splendour is magnificent.

Admission Not Included

Inveraray

Arriving in Inveraray, just 20 minutes after leaving Kilchurn Castle it's time to enjoy this picture perfect village at the top of Loch Fyne with the beautiful Inveraray Castle and Gardens. A 60 minute stop to soak up the atmosphere and calm of a highland village. Entry to the castle and gardens requires entry fee, (closed Tue & Wed). There is the wonderful Loch Fyne Oyster Bar just 12 minutes drive from Inverary, with a Deli and a take-away with a sitting area outside. You can adjust your time in Inverary, if you want to visit.

Rest and be Thankful

20 minutes from Inveraray and another magnificent viewpoint with beautiful views where you can see the old valley road down on the valley floor, winding up to our viewpoint. The old road was built 272 years ago following the Jacobite rebellion. We then drop down to the head of Loch Long and make our way across to Loch Lomond again, then back to Glasgow, a 60 minute journey.
