This was the best thing we did in Charleston. Mike is an exceptional cook, host, and historian. The long community table and family style serving allowed for getting to know your neighbors while enjoying as much of the delicious food as you as you want. Very enjoyable evening

This is such an amazing experience! Mike is a fantastic host. You get to visit the Fireproof Building & Museum after hours and look around before you go upstairs for dinner. Dinner was delicious. Mike talks you through South Carolina and Charleston history in a really interesting way (I'm not from Charleston or South Carolina and felt like I could follow everything he was saying). My favorite part of what he shared was the culinary history!! Sharing where these recipes came from, why they're seasoned this way, why these ingredients were popular, how this meal would have been served, chefs in the area, etc. I've never heard history told from that perspective and it was absolutely fascinating. I left wanting to learn more! Mike does these dinners often and is always changing the meal so I would definitely rebook this experience every time I'm in Charleston to try new historic food and learn more!

There really is no way to express the fabulous experience and culinary delight we had in doing this. History isn't usually experienced through food, but this gentleman has done it with great gusto, in which, each great dish only got better with the next great dish. This is more than a 'tasting'. It is well worth the time and the price. HIGHLY recommended! You must book ahead. Space is limited.

Communication before the event was great as due to filming on the street of the venue, our entry to the building was altered and we received emails. Upon arrival we we greeted warmly by the host, Mike (in period dress) and given a short history of the building and its unique features. Thereafter, we had 30 minutes to enjoy the South Carolina Historical Society Museum. Dinner included 7 courses from the 18th and 19th centuries and Mike provided very interesting, detailed history of Charleston area, it’s people and the food of the 18th and 19th centuries. The food that we received was tasty and plentiful and we enjoyed the replica china and flatware that we used. During the dining portions we had a chance to meet and interact with the other ten diners who were all from different places throughout the country which was enjoyable. A unique, truly enjoyable experience that we would recommend to family and friends.

The stories of Charleston and the history was wonderful. The history and receipts on each entree was fun. There was also a free pre tour of the museum. The host was wonderful. This is a must do on a trip to Charleston

A great evening! The food was excellent in quality, preparation and presentation. Mike was knowlegeable, professinal, personable and entertaining; the atmosphere beautiful and relaxing. The museum is excellent, too, so take the time to do this added after dinner bonus. Bring a bottle of wine for dinner and enjoy!
