Amazing experience with great food at The Gaylord and great story of the island in the show. The dancers and singers were great. Fun time had by all

This was a fun evening. We were looking for a medium sized venue for a luau and this fit the bill nicely. Our table and most others were close to the performers who were spirited and appeared to be genuinely enjoying what they were doing. The story line was easy to follow and depicted well with words and dance. They had an open bar which was certainly a bonus. We would have rated it higher if the buffet was a little more interesting (okay but not spectacular) and the luau entrance was more inviting. The presentation of Leis was not great. Two people not in Hawaiian dress simply handed a lei to you while in the picture line, and that was a bit like a cattle call. Overall the whole experience was good but could have been better with a little more attention to detail.

The Plantation Owner's Dinner was excellent, and the show was wonderful. The smiles on the faces of the performers were real, and the pleasure they took in sharing their art was evident. Can't recommend enough.

We did the premier seating where you get a three course meal with a delicious dessert! Plus, we received a complimentary glass of champagne! Everyone there was very friendly, dinner was great & we really enjoyed the show at the Luau!

We paid $260 each for this luau with NCL on Pride of America. The description said there would be a pig roast. There was not. The cruise excursion desk botched our reservation. We were given tickets that belonged to another couple. When we went to get the correct tickets we were put in the second group to leave and we were assigned a table that didn't exist. This same experience was $100 less per person through other booking sources. Food served was nothing special. The food on the ship was better. The show was good. Overall I would not recommend this luau.

What an exceptional experience! From entering the beautiful grounds, amazing dinner and an incredible show, everything was beyond our expectations. If you are in Kauai, do miss your opportunity to experience this amazing event.

The food at the beginning was delicious. Both my wife and I had the fresh fish and was truly great. The later in the evening was great to watch and listen to. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a nice romantic evening.

We opted for the VIP dinner and special seating at the Luau. I highly recommend this option. There was a small group that participated. It included a dinner with champagne and leis. It was a good dinner and excellent service. We dined at the beautiful courtyard of the Gaylord Plantation house. Then we were given time to explore the shops at the house. We were then escorted from the house to the laua by two men with torches to our reserved stage-side tables. It was marvelous and special. We didn't have to navigate the crowded luau buffet and our seats were the best in the house. From looking at other reviews, the luau itself is one of the best of Kaiai. The performance was excellent. It told a beautiful story with wonderful dances and native costumes. The performers were exceptional. Our first row table was perfect and was truly a VIP experience.

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY unless you love poor cafeteria style food! I normally do not write long reviews but I suggest reading so you are prepared….My wife and I booked this event for our Luau event while on Kauai. We were very excited and the idea of a private dinner and then preferred seating for the show sounded worth the $450. The reviews of Gaylord’s restaurant were very positive. Earlier in the week we had lunch on the property as part of a Train Ride and walk through their orchard and the food was very good and fresh. This made us even more excited for the evening event. The evening arrived and my wife and I dressed for a night out. When we arrived we were to be greeted with a glass of Champaign and then to be seated. This was the first miss of the evening as we were seated but no welcome Champaign. Soon our waitress ( a very sweet young lady that seemed very helpful) approach our table and explained the evening’s order of events. She said she would soon present us our Welcome Champaign and then asked if we wanted any cocktail or wine off the menu (this was an additional charge and we knew that as well) or had any special dietary needs. I informed our waitress that my wife was Gluten Free (which I also indicated when I made the reservation). We ordered a bottle of wine and placed our appetizers at the same time. Before both our Champaign and bottle of wine arrived our appetizers arrived. My wife had the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail and I had a pickled vegetable salad served on a Brioche Tartine. My wife took a bite of her Shrimp and nearly gaged on it as it was completely undercooked. I then cut into my Tartine which appeared to be just a pile of pickled vegetables on top of what looked like a flatbread/pita from Costco. My wife sent her shrimp back telling them it was undercooked. We then had something happen that NEITHER OF US HAVE SEEN before - the server returned her original plate with the same 2 pieces of shrimp (minus the bite she took) that had just been warmed in a micro-wave!! This of course brings many questions to mind around overall cooking and handling practices in that kitchen! For the salad we both had the Caprese salad. This sad looking salad arrived with bread on both (no attempt to adjust to gluten free) and with what looked like yet another Costco purchase of mozzarella cheese and overdressed greens. At this point we both were thinking surely the Fresh Catch of the day that apparently was line caught earlier in the day would be great. We were getting a local fish that was apparently only in season for 6 months and that it was light white fish and the dish also included pulled pork. As the dish arrived, in hindsight I wish I would have taken a photo, we both lost our appetite as our plate of food looked like it literally was coming from a cafeteria catering to hundreds of dinners. The fish had some type of white sauce served on a bed of cabbage, beside that was a pile of dry looking pulled pork, a large scoopful of white rice with no attempt of seasoning, and a pile of what looked like pico-de-gallo of some sort. We both took a few bites to see if there was a hidden gem here - there was not! The fish was overcooked and the white sauce’s purpose was to apparently add some flavor to the dry fish. The pulled pork lacked any flavor other than salt and was also dry. At this point we both resigned to not eating any more. Desserts arrived, and despite asking for a gluten free desert, my wife’s ice cream was served inside of a very glutinous pastry that had one small scoop. At this point, my wife and I were terrible disappointed in our choice to spend the extra money for what we thought would be a great start to the evening. We then were escorted to our reserved seats for the Luau performance. We did get front row seats which was a plus and while the performance was not a true Luau type performance the performers were outstanding. Unfortunately, at the point of the performance my wife and I were so annoyed by the entire evening it was hard to fully enjoy the hard work these performers put in. BUT WAIT - the evening is not over….. As we are leaving the performance area, my wife needs to stop as her stomach is upset and she uses the restroom - I will save the details but suffice it to say, it appeared as though the undercooked shrimp and poor food care had a negative impact on her. I will be call the Gaylord’s today to place a complaint but I have no expectation of any resolution. FIND A DIFFERENT LUAU!
