What a great experience! I'm a New Yorker and I take the subway a lot. AJ gave me a new appreciation and interest in its history and how it has quietly shaped New York city in the past and continues to take her into the future. I enjoyed the combination of mini lectures and actual riding of the trains, walking into spaces, looking at the art... he literally shone his super bright flashlight into nooks and crannies that would ordinarily go unnoticed. AJ clearly knew his stuff but was also engaging and attentive to the group. I wish we had more time!! I highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed the tour. The guide (AJ?) was unbelievably knowledgeable. He spoke very fast, but the headset allowed us to hear everything, necessary whenever a train went by. I was disappointed that we could not see some of the closed stations up close, but apparently you need to belong to the Transit Museum to do so. I love history and this tour and guide certainly provided an insight into the formation of the city and how the systems came to be. I would highly recommend this tour.

Its a bit daunting the first couple of days but well worth the money and experience. Buy the 6 day unlimited metro card for $36 it will save you a fortune. Don't bother with the over ground network the subway is value for money. Just get used to knowing if you want to go uptown or downtown.

The guide, AJ, was very good - so knowledgeable and easy to understand. It was great to be able to wear earpieces so we had no problem hearing him talk the whole two hours. He gave tons of history of the subway and the different lines that started it and the construction and people involved. We walked down to different areas of the station and he would show pictures and give more information. We traveled on the subway to different stops to see the neat tilework and hear about the naming of the stations, etc. At the end, he had his flashlight out when we were on the train and shined it on a couple of the “ghost stations”, stations that are no longer used, but you can see the beautiful artwork and platforms as you go by, if you shine the light on them. It was a good tour with lots of great information.

Alexis is extremely knowledgeable about the subway history in New York. This tour is a must for history buffs because she not only tells about the subway system over time but also the social and political culture that played a part in the evolution of mass transit.

What a fun and unusual tour of NYC subway. I have taken the subway numerous times, but never knew when and where it started. Our tour guide, Jim, was delightful and very informative. I loved seeing the moving platform at 14th Street station and staying on the train as went by old City Hall Station. Really fun and will take another Untapped tour again. (The ear pieces were a huge help with the noise in the stations)

My husband loved this! It was a great insight into how things are connected in NYC. I loved it with the history and the architecture information that was passed down, including all the information on the tiles!

This visit was very interesting. Our guide was fantastic. She told us about the history of the metro and we were able to see photos from the past. After a 20x in NYC, I look at the subway and its details with attention and fascination. It was like going back to the 1900s. Thanks for a great time!

Alexsis was a fantastic guide. She was knowledgeable, knew historical facts, and just led an enjoyable tour. We are local and ride the subways, but there were so many details that you would normally never notice. I would highly recommend.
