The tour was designed to fit in with the time the Alaska Railroad was in Seward, and it was done very well. The first stop on the tour was the Seavey compound. This family has won several Iditarod races and they are dedicated to the 'musher' world. The ride in the training sled was OK, and handling the puppies was nice. The information, precise and detailed was excellent. Learning about changing the booties of 14 dogs at every rest station was just one of the fascinating technical things learned about how dogs and mushers endure the race. The next evolution was the hike to the Exit Glacier overlook. It was a challenge for an 82 year old with heart issues, but was worth the effort. The amazing thing was how far the glacier has retreated in just the last 60 years. Our tour guide/driver next took us on a tour through Seward proper, giving an excellent narration of the sights and history. Lunch at the Seasalt restaurant was excellent. The visit to the fish weir was interesting. This tour was done in conjunction with the Alaska Railroad day trip from Anchorage and is an excellent tour for the time in Seward.

This whole tour is magnificent! The ididaride dogs were healthy, happy and very cute! I enjoyed the ride and learning more about the Iditarod race now and historically. The glacier overlook hike was breathtaking. Lunch was tasty. Our tour guide, Ken was attentive, friendly and timely.

The views were amazing unfortunately we cannot go into a cruise because lack of time . You need to get tickets in advance.

Favorite part of our vacation. I honestly didn’t think I’d care for the dog sledding but booked it for my daughter who loves dogs. We all enjoyed the tour so much, and the dog sledding was the best part. The tour didn’t feel rushed at all but also not so long where you feel bored. You get a lot done within the time frame the tour allotted.

Our driver / guide Daryl was wonderful! Then pace of this trip is perfect! We loved the sled dogs, the sod ride, the glacier hike and the salmon. As a local, Daryl shared lots of interesting stories!

Tour is for younger people who can rock climb up a mountain. Our guide johnathon told us there was going to be a two mile hike which as an older person I can do. Once we started walking it was more like rock climbing up a mountain to see a glacier. I almost fell five times and he left three of us behind who were struggling. I would of thought he would of stayed and helped but we all caught up to him 15 minutes later with other people who were not on the tour assisting us.

What an amazing experience this was! I’ve told everyone about it. This was our second trip to Alaska, but first time visiting a dog sled mushing camp. I was torn between which one to pick in Seward and am SO happy we chose Seavey’s. This is a top notch operation with a wealth of knowledge of the sport of dog sledding. Upon arrival, you can hear dogs in the distance. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about dog training, feeding and caring for the dogs. They kennels are open with shared houses for the dogs. The musher is great and the two lead dogs were part of the “A” team and kept the younger ones in line. They are so quiet when running - it’s beautiful!! Young Cora Seavey introduced us to the 11 day old puppies and made sure no one snuck one out in their coat!! So cute! They show you how a musher and dog team prepare for a race and let you experience being on a sled. I highly recommend this tour if you’re in Seward for the day - you won’t be disappointed. We did it as part of the 6-hour Real Alaska Tour that included a city tour, lunch at a local restaurant near the harbor, a stop by Bear Creek to see the salmon, and a hike to Exit Glacier - a must!! We rode the train from Anchorage to Seward - another must - and our guide picked us up at the train station, our luggage was transported to the hotel and we were off on an adventure. Besides the dog sled camp, we were fortunate to hike to Exit Glacier. It was a nice, brisk walk up an uneven terrain. A flatter, easier trail is offered for those who may need it. We chose to follow our guide and were rewarded with amazing views and a good workout after a long train ride. There are many choices and we are happy we chose this! It was a great start to out southbound Alaskan cruise.
